Bajans open t-tennis account

Article by BEA DOTTIN

Barbados will open their campaign in the Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Federation’s (CRTTF) Championships at the Pabellion de Tenis de Mesa del Parque del Este, Santo Domingo, today.
Third in both the women’s and men’s team events at last year’s games, Barbados will be keen for a higher place on the medal podium and to make their presence felt in the individual and doubles events.
There will also be competition in the veteran and Under-21 categories.
The Barbados squad that left for the Dominican Republic yesterday is being led by former national champion Mark Dowell. Trevor Farley, Aaron Barker and Rashad King complete the men’s team. Krystal Harvey, Ann Reid, Sherrice Felix and Anthonette Riley comprise the women’s team.
Stephen Payne, the recently crowned Under-13 CRTTF Pre-Cadet champion will compete in the Under-21 along with King and Anthonette Riley. Peter “German” Riley will play in the veteran’s class.
United States based coach Rawle Alleyne and national coach Clifton Mark are the coaches while Marguerita Felix will manage the team.
Eleven other countries will be participating. These are Aruba, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, St Lucia, Guadeloupe, Curaçao, French Guiana, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and host country the Dominican Republic. (PH)
