BFA gloom
FAR FROM FOOTING ITS BILLS, the Barbados Football Association (BFA) could now be hand to mouth.
Local football’s cash-strapped governing body is staring down the barrel of an almost $21 000 shortfall in funds required to service major commitments after learning that the sport’s governing body, FIFA, would be forwarding only just over a third of the annual $500 000 grant.
First-year BFA president Randy Harris revealed the previous administration had requested an advance on the FIFA subvention, forcing his new-look executive to operate with just $178 000 from this year’s grant.
But that figure alone won’t be able to cover last season’s prize money to the clubs – which is estimated around $140 000 – and an overdue referees’ bill that was listed in the BFA’s financial statement.”
