The Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) is currently locked in a meeting with delegates as it seek to finetune plans to execute a national strike.
The meeting is being held at the union’s headquarters at Solidarity House, St Michael, where some placards were spotted on the platform.
The date of the strike and the related details are still not known. However, these details could be decided on tonight despite numerous calls from some private and public sector organizations not to go ahead with the strike.
Unconfirmed reports are that the Minister of Labour Esther Byer-Suckoo has referred the matter to the Prime Minister.
BWU has criticized telecommunications giant LIME of unfairly dismissing 97 of its employees at the beginning of this year and has called for a retraction of those letters. However, LIME has taken its position and charged that those dismissals were warranted.
More details to come
