All Stars win big in UWI hockey

Deacons and All Stars were big winners when the University of the West Indies (UWI) Hockey Scrimfest Championships started on Tuesday at the UWI?Astro Turf.
Akeem Douglas (ninth), Jabari Walcott (19th), Raymond Nurse (20th), Keron Taylor (22nd) and Neil Franklin (30th) all got on the scoresheet as Deacons thrashed Blackbirds 5-2 in a men’s game. Justin Catlin had a double strike in the 20th and 30th minutes for the Blackbirds.
All Stars, behind a Damien Downes’ brace in the fourth and 22nd minute and goals by Andrew Morris (13th) and Marlon Daniel (24th), blanked the Barbados Defence Force 4-0 in another men’s match.
Cool Runnings also went on a goal rush, trouncing Live Up 4-2. Two goals by Paul Gill (seventh and 19th) were sandwiched by strikes from Che Warner (16th) and Akeel Trotman-Grant (30th).
In the other men’s game, CSOS edged UWI Hockey Club 2-1 through goals by Khevyn Williams (eighth) and Aaron Forde (15th). Rohan “Reno” Thomas got UWI’s one goal in the 23rd minute.  
In the two women’s matches, UWI Hockey Club and BB Limerz played to a goalless draw while CSOS got a 28th minute goal from Keisha Boyce to earn a 1-1 draw with Hockey Freekz after Ayanna Wilson’s tenth-minute effort. (EZS)
