Barbados’ biggest venue for hosting sports and entertainment will now be looking to bring in the sun.
Years of struggling with high electricity bills might soon be a thing of the past for the Wildey Gymnasium as the 5 000-seat facility is considering the possibility of switching to solar power for the foreseeable future.
Minister of Sports Stephen Lashley revealed plans for the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in an interview with WEEKEND SPORTS.
“We’re re-looking the standard means of supplying our power via electricity in an effort to recover a lot of those soaring costs,” explained Lashley.
“And one of those possibilities is installing solar panels atop the Gymnasium as this should not only bring down our power costs, but help us to also provide better rates to our customers.”
