PRIVATE SCHOOLS have made a significant contribution to educational development in Barbados and Minister of Education Ronald Jones wants this role documented.
Speaking yesterday at St Matthias Anglican Church in Christ Church where Unique High School held its 65th anniversary service, Jones said private schools would have filled a gap when there was a scarcity of places in public secondary schools, and also trained students who went on to play critical roles in all spheres of endeavour. Â
Therefore, he called for their history to be captured for posterity, documenting the exploits of the students they have produced. Â
A highlight of the service was the donation by a former student of the Rockley, Christ Church school. The donor, who wanted to remain anonymous, provided a year’s school fees totalling $1 800 to assist one student experiencing financial difficulties. (LK)
