SHORTAGE OF WATER will not slow down development in Barbados.
Noting that the Government was prepared to do whatever was necessary to make water available for development purposes, Minister of Agriculture Dr David Estwick said the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) was investing in infrastructure to access, store and move water across the island.
He was speaking at a ground-breaking ceremony at the BWA’s Belle Pumping Station in St Michael yesterday, where work will soon get under way for the laying of an additional 19 kilometres of pipe, via three mains, which will expand the water supply to Christ Church and St Philip at an estimated cost of $30 million.
He said the BWA recognised the need to upgrade and expand its water supply servicing the two parishes in order to meet the demands resulting from commercial and housing development proposals submitted to the Town and Country Planning Department within the last six years.
