LAWS CAN ONLY go so far in helping employees get justice in the workplace and this is where a code of conduct becomes important in bridging the gap between legislation and best practices.
General secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union, Sir Roy Trotman, made this observation today in pressing for a code of conduct to become part of the industrial relations climate.
He told the DAILY NATION that across the world, codes covered such things as human rights, respect for workers, environmental sustainability and sharing financial benefits.
Sir Roy raised the issue of the code of conduct at the Grande Salle of the Central Bank of Barbados at the start of a series of presentations and panel discussions to mark A Week of Excellence. (TY)
