KINGSTON – Security was tight in downtown Kingston today and several roads were closed as the Vybz Kartel murder trial entered its final stages.
However, chaos erupted in the afternoon as supporters of dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel broke through police barricades and pushed their way to the gates of the courthouse chanting “Free Vybz Kartel!”
As the jury began deliberations today, Jamaican police had stepped up security around the Home Circuit Court.
Several Kartel supporters have been congregating outside the court in the last days of the murder trial which has been running for more than 60 days.
Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, was charged along with Shawn Shawn Storm Campbell, Shane Williams, Andre St John, and Kahira Jones in the alleged death of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams on August 16, 2011. (NB)
