Former Barbados Chief Justice Sir David Simmons says he is very worried about increasing violent crime in the Caribbean.
His comments followed the brutal execution-style murder of Trinidadian senior counsel and special prosecutor Dana Seetahal, as she drove in Trinidad and Tobago’s capital, Port of Spain, early yesterday morning.
Sir David, who was hired by the Trinidad government to lead a commission of inquiry into the 1992 coup attempt, described Seetahal as an astute lawyer who was both fearless and analytical and who wanted to contribute significantly to the Caribbean.
During a radio interview on Starcom Network, Sir David said: “I am very distressed about it and I am trying to work out in my mind the implications. This is the second time within the last couple of years that a lawyer has been assassinated in Trinidad and Tobago.” (GE)
