There are?children in some Barbadian households who are being subjected to child labour.
And the victims are those between the ages of five to 14 years, according to a 2012 survey conducted by the Barbados Statistical Service (BSS), which came up for discussion during a BSS/UNICEF Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey Report at Hilton Barbados yesterday.
But the news caused Minister of Social Care Steve Blackett, who gave the main address, to raise eyebrows, though he admitted that he would have to study the survey results, which still had to go before Cabinet, before giving a full response.
“I am awaiting the survey and it has to go to Cabinet before it is sent out to the public,” he said.
The report split the areas of concern for child labour between the ages of five to 11 and 12 to 14. (JS)
