Ramon?Jackman?put on an impressive display of attacking table tennis to lead newly promoted Rising Sun to their first victory of the season when Premier One Table Tennis continued at the Table Tennis Centre.
Rising Sun defeated the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BDFSP) 3-2, ably led by the left-handed Jackman, a student at Harrison College. Jackman beat Rashad King 2-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-6 and returned to the table later in the contest to win the decisive set against Tryvon Powlett 11-7, 11-8, 11-6.
Rising Sun’s other victory came through seasoned campaigner Sherlock Small, who downed Barbados national player Sherrice Felix 11-2, 5-11, 11-6, 11-8.
BDFSP’s wins came through Powlett who took out Anthonette Riley 11-5, 12-10, 7-11, 11-6 and in the doubles which King and Felix won 3-0 from Small and Riley.
Combermere schoolboy Tyrese Knight also had a good night as he helped Scouters ‘A’ to a convincing 3-0 win over Spinner ‘A’.
Knight beat veteran Charles Lovell 11-0, 11-3, 11-1 in a remarkably one-sided contest. Mark Dowell won from Chris Banfield 11-4, 11-6, 11-13, 11-7 while Dowell joined with left-hander Junior Evelyn to topple Lovell and Julia Morris in a compelling doubles contest 15-13, 12-14, 10-12, 11-6, 11-6.
In other matches, Fast Loopers ‘B’ beat Spinners ‘B’ 3-0 while Scouters ‘B’ defeated Bayswater 3-1. (PH)
