Julian “Michael Jackson” White, and Antonio Daniel are the favourites for the Monarchs of the Courts road tennis tournament now at the semi-final stage.

The durable White is ranked number one in the country while the rejuvenated Daniel has rekindled interest in the sport with his exciting attacking play, highlighted by his recent memorable victories over Mark “Venom” Griffith in Silver Hill and Coverley, Christ Church.

In the quarter-finals at the Villages at Coverley over the weekend, White had defeated Anderson “St. George” Sealy 21-10, 23-21 while Daniel toppled Griffith 21-13, 22-24, 21-19 to advance to the semi-finals and a bid to capture the first prize of $10 000.

Daniel will play his semi-final match against Curtis Jones today at the Ranch, Springer Garden, after Jones ended the fine run of junior Dario Hinds 18-21, 21-14, 21-15.  The other semi-final will see White clashing with Anthony “Ears” Mitchell.

The experienced Mitchell won the all-Christ Church clash against Marson Johnson 21-19, 21-19.

The 21 and under game saw Keon Murrell edging Kyle King 21-14, 18-21, 21-18. Murrell will meet Darius “Barracus” Gaskin in the semis while Hinds battles Emar Edwards. (MK)
