BARBADOS, led by a brace from striker Arantees Lawrence made a winning start to their second-round Group 8 Caribbean Football Union’s Cup campaign with a workmanlike 3-2 victory over St Kitts and Nevis at the Sylvio Cato Stadium in Haiti on Wednesday night.

The Bajan Tridents had to come from behind to log their victory after conceding an early goal when St Kitts and Nevis, who are ranked 44 places above Barbados on the FIFA world rankings, drew first blood in the 12th minute, courtesy of a goal by Devon Elliott.

Left-sided winger Carl Joseph equalised in the 19th minute with a superb curling shot while Lawrence gave Barbados a 3-1 lead at half-time with goals in the 25th and 30th minutes, clinically finishing off well weighted passes from fellow striker Mario Harte, and Joseph.

The Sugar Boys pulled back a goal in the 83rd minute but the Tridents held on for victory to top the group with three points.

Barbados will play the host country, Haiti, in a crucial second game on Friday night before wrapping up their engagements against French Guiana on Sunday.

Haiti and French Guiana had battled to a 2-2 draw in Wednesday’s second game of the double header. (EZS)
