ST GEORGE’S, Grenada – Promoters in Grenada are lamenting the high taxes which are stifling the development of the entertainment industry.
In a recent meeting with Ministry of Culture Senator Brenda Hood, promoters said it was very frustrating to promote shows, because Grenada was the only Caribbean territory that is demanding work permits from other Caribbean artistes who enter the country to perform.
In addition, the promoters stated that the level of taxation on their businesses was too high and was stifling the growth of the entertainment industry in Grenada.
Senator Hood committed to engage the ministries of Finance and Labour on the concerns raised, in an effort to seek some relief for the promoters and to advance the creative industry.
The meeting involved the top 16 promoters on the island to discuss ways of promoting Grenada’s creative industry, in order to take it to the next level. It was the second meeting in three months, and Hood said her ministry was committed to working with them to promote the industry for the economic development of Grenada.
The meeting ended with the Promoters selecting an executive to advance the work of the newly formed Grenada Promoters Association.
A second meeting between the ministry and media representatives was also held on the same day and they began discussions on a broadcasting policy. (PR/SAT)
