MINISTER OF EDUCATION Ronald Jones is demanding that the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) hand over thousands of dollars outstanding in invalidity, maternity and other benefits to citizens by this week.
He made the call while launching a scathing attack on the management of the institution for its handling of the changeover from the old to the new computer system.
“These things are wrong; they are annoying. You mean you couldn’t come up even with a temporary solution? What happened to good old paper and receipts and other things? You back up the system and when you back up the system, you still provide substantial hard copy,” the minister argued.
Jones was addressing a meeting of the Democratic Labour Party’s Christ Church South branch at St Lawrence Primary School on Sunday.
Last Friday, NIS director Ian Carrington promised that by the end of this week pensioners would get their monies, while apologising for the lengthy delays. (CW)
