Unbeaten Gems to face St Lucia

THE BARBADOS GEMS will put their unbeaten streak on the line tonight as they go for a fourth straight win at the Caribbean Netball Association Jean Pierre Youth Tournament in St Lucia.

And their opponents will be none other than the hosts, who will no doubt still be smarting after being edged 23-22 by St Vincent and the Grenadines on Monday night.

Barbados stayed on course to win this year’s tournament after an easy 21-12 victory over Grenada, while Trinidad and Tobago got their first win, 20-9 over Bermuda.

Coach Julie Phillips told NationNews they would not be particularly wary of St Lucia since “the game is played on the day”. She said they would be looking to apply the pressure from the midcourt and since St Lucia’s shooter was very tall, they would have to deny her ball possession.

The two teams are scheduled to meet at 7:15 p.m.

Also tonight, Dominica will play Grenada and St Vincent will take on Bermuda. Trinidad and Tobago have drawn a bye ahead of tomorrow’s match against Barbados. (SAT)
