TAXPAYERS HAVE AN extra eight days to file their income tax.

Today the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) extended the deadline for the 2014 income tax filing to Friday, May 8, 2015.

In a Press statement this evening BRA said it had taken into consideration that several entities failed to submit accurate third-party information in order to facilitate filing before today’s deadline.

“As such, the decision was made to grant an extension to enable taxpayers to have that pertinent information uploaded to the Electronic Tax Administration system. Persons who have not yet filed are also being advised not to wait until May 8 to file their returns but to do so as soon as is possible,” BRA stated.

However some taxpayers complained that they had difficulty getting on to the website to complete their filing.

The authority reminded Barbadians that failing to complete the return by May 8 would incur a penalty of $500 and five per cent of the tax assessed and unpaid. Interest will also accrue for each month during which it remains outstanding.

Taxpayers can file online at https://etax.ird.gov.bb and those who are in need of assistance or additional information may contact the customer service department or email the authority at bramail@barbados.gov.bb. (PR)
