SHANNON HACKETT won the battle of the “Garrison girls” to lead contenders C.O. Williams Rangers to a key victory over UWI Blackbirds when the Freekz Customz Division 1 netball league continued on Wednesday night at the Netball Stadium.
The slimly-built goal shooter Hackett, a graduate of the Graydon Sealy (formerly Garrison), was on fire scoring 30 goals from 33 attempts as Rangers held off the Blackbirds to move to 3-0 while the Blackbirds dropped to 1-2.
At the other end of the court, the more robust goal shooter Shonica Wharton was almost as impressive as her former schoolmate in scoring 20 goals from 24 attempts for UWI. However, it was the midcourt defence and offence of the Rangers which gave them the edge as the winners shot 49 times at goal while UWI made 40 attempts.
