SHELLY-ANN FRASER-PRYCE will miss Sunday’s Birmingham Diamond League athletics meeting to concentrate on rehabilitation of an injured hamstring.

In a message posted on her Facebook page Friday, Fraser-Pryce said the aim was to be fully fit for the IAAF World Championships in Beijing in August.

She did not give a timetable for her return.

The statement is in full below:

Dear Fans in Jamaica and around the World,

My primary goals this year are to run faster than my previous personal records and represent my country Jamaica to the best of my ability at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing.

To achieve these goals my body must be fully ready to go. After running the fastest 100m time in the World this year (10.81) at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Eugene, I travelled to Rome, Italy where I was scheduled to run the 200m at the Diamond League meeting there yesterday.

However, during warm up, based on the pain in my hamstring, my coach, support team and I agreed that I could not race. I have therefore also withdrawn from the Birmingham Diamond League meeting scheduled for this Sunday, June 7th, so as to get the appropriate treatment and be able to return to the track as soon as practical and achieve my primary goals this year.

Thank you for your continued love and support. May God bless all of you.

Shelly Ann
