THERE WAS LITTLE DOUBT about the message behind this placard held by acting deputy general secretary of the National Union of Public Works (NUPW), Delcia Burke, yesterday: If Prime Minister Freundel Stuart can serve after age 60, so too can the forcibly retired staff members of the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC).
It was all part of a demonstration by the union to protest the “termination” the previous day of a number of workers of the BIDC who are over 60 years of age.
And while the union has given the corporation until noon today to withdraw the termination letters, Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development Donville Inniss stressed the workers will get everything due to them by the time they are required to leave in September.
