Inmate’s mother wants money probe

THE MOTHER of an inmate at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds wants a full investigation launched into what is happening to payments for inmates to purchase personal items and use the telephones.

Dianne Freeman’s 21-year-old son Leon Freeman has been in jail since 2013. Since then, she lamented she has had challenges with him being able to access the basics he needs, even though she pays the money for him to get phone credits as well as “canteen” items.

Canteen items include snacks, toothpaste, cornflakes, soaps and toilet paper which are offered on sale by the prison to inmates.

For the past month, she said, he had been unable to get toothpaste or soap.
