DOMINICANS are coming together as one to battle the island’s ongoing tragedy.
Many have formed search parties to look for missing family members and friends lost after the Nature Isle was ripped apart by Tropical Storm Erika on Thursday.
Neighbours have also started digging away tonnes of mud that had covered washed away houses and vehicles, and groups are making sure the elderly are safe.
One family last night recounted how they watched in horror as flood waters in the town of Emsall, near the capital, destroyed a bridge, wreaking havoc on the town.
“We never expected it to be like this. We are actually very surprised at the damage done. We didn’t think it would be this bad at all,” Emsall resident Kevin Seaman told the SUNDAY SUN by mobile phone from the urban area.
