Saffie wins Millions at Gulfstream

IT HAS BEEN A DREAM beginning to the month of Independence for Barbadian horsemen executing their trade on the American and Canadian circuits, especially trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.

Last Saturday at Gulfstream Park West in Florida, his chestnut colt Saraguaro won the US$100 000 Millions Classic Preview Stakes over one mile and one sixteenth.

Ridden by jockey Eddie Castro, the son of Express Tour out of Return of Mom, who was sent off as the second favourite at 5/2 odds, stalked in the fourth position before making a bold sweeping move after six furlongs.

It proved decisive as he ran by leaders City Of Weston, Nauset Beach and Southern Barbecue, opening a two-length advantage turning for home.
