LITIGATE AND AGITATE. This is the clarion call from the executive director of the Barbados Family Planning Association, Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, to members of the disabled community yesterday.
Speaking at the opening ceremony to launch the Barbados Council for the Disabled/BFPA programme Women’s Institute on Leadership and Disability (WILD) Barbados at Hope Ranch, Neil’s Plantation, Bynoe-Sutherland urged members of the differently-abled community to stand up for their rights.
She admitted that while progress had been made in sensitising the general public about issues relating to the disabled community, more could be done.
“We need more activism; more assertiveness; So I am asking you to really think . . . about the issues; about asserting yourself; about bringing legal cases; about making petitions to Government departments or to private businesses . . .,” she said. (HLE)
