GARBAGE CONTINUES to pile up across the island in the run-up to Christmas, as residents engage in their seasonal cleaning.
In a previous report, Minister of Health John Boyce said that Barbados generated about 300 to 400 tonnes of domestic waste per day. And according to one source at the Sanitation Services Authority (SSA), this amount was expected to rise by 60 per cent during the Christmas season, which could spell problems as only 15 of the agency’s 25 trucks are currently operational.
Recently, residents have been crying out, with some complaining that garbage had not been collected for two weeks or more. (RA)
