THE BARBADOS SECONDARY Teachers UnionĀ is currently meeting with Ministry of Education officials in talks at resolving the impasse between its members and the ministry over payment for School Based Assessment projects.

President of the BSTU Mary Redman is heading the union’s delegation that includes general secretary Andrew Brathwaite, first vice president Erskine Padmore, third vice president Charles Morris and union consultant Patrick Frost.

Redman told NATION Online she was hoping for further positive movement in terms of payment given the progress that was made at the last meeting.

ā€œAt the last meeting there was a clearer understanding of the magnitude of the work , the volume of work in preparing the student in doing the SBA, then supervising the process, Ā then marking the SBA and then doing the data entry. At the end of the meeting they had a much clearer understanding,ā€ the president said.Ā

She said she was hoping that the two entities had moved past that stage ā€œand therefore we can be discussing some dollars in terms of compensationā€.

The meeting is being held at the Ministry of Education. A number of teachers are also in attendance. (JS)
