WORKERS IN SEVERAL key sectors are now reportedly on standby as the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) prepares to step up action in the current impasse with the Barbados Water Authority (BWA).
Shop stewards from the Bridgetown Port, Transport Board, Rural Development Corporation (RDC), Urban Development Corporation (UDC), Customs and Excise Department, Barbados Light & Power (BL&P), and other public sector agencies answered a late call for a mid-day meeting in solidarity with the striking BWA workers at the Barbados Workers’ Union’s Solidarity House headquarters yesterday.
The workers who assembled represented sectors that had been battling with similar grievances.
A check with the Transport Board, Bridgetown Port and a RDC source indicated that there was no disruption to operations at the agencies, since the line staff were not called out. (YB)
