BWU backing teachers

THE UNIONS are pulling together on the issue of violence in schools.

The Barbados Workers Union (BWU) is the latest to throw its support behind the Barbados Secondary Teachers Union and the Barbados Union Teachers following two incidents where teachers were allegely attacked by students during school hours.

General secretary of the BWU, Toni Moore, said her executive council stood “in strong support of positions taken by our sister unions up til now”.

Moore was speaking to the media following the launch of this year’s May Day activities yesterday and called on the Ministry of Education to do all that was required to have the matter addressed in a sensible and as human a way as possible. (LK)
