“BARBADOS DAY was a success!”
Those five words from an evidently satisfied Bajan Yankee at the end of the day, as she paused for a selfie with a friend, seemed to sum up the sentiments of the thousands who converged on Seaview Park in Canarsie, Brooklyn, New York, last Saturday.
Overcast skies and intermittent rains did not stop Barbadians from transforming Seaview Park into a virtual sea of blue, yellow and black as multiple generations celebrated Bajan pride at the annual event, which got started 13 years ago.
People came by the bus and car loads from Massachusetts, Maine, New Jersey and other states to mingle with the New Yorkers. There was no mistaking the pride as people went to great lengths to show they were Bajans.
They were decked out in special edition blue T-shirts with the 50th anniversary of Independence logo. (YB)
