QEH boss: It will get worse

THERE ARE ENOUGH elderly abandoned at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) to almost fill a ward.

But if the island thinks the situation is bad now, it will get worse as the island faces a growing elderly population in the future, said chief executive officer of the QEH, Dr Dexter James.

His comments came as he addressed the hospital’s public accountability review/open board meeting for 2016 at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre on Thursday night.

He said there were 11 men, seven women and five other people who were referred to as “Young for Care” – those who were too young for the Geriatric Hospital – scattered across the wards of the QEH.
