Boycott forces organiser to cancel cycling
CYCLING’s in-house war has spilled on to the road again.
The big 50th Anniversary Independence Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) Games are going to be short one sport now after cycling had to be scrapped following the threat of a boycott from local riders.
Barbados Cycling Union racing secretary Livy Headley confirmed the news in an interview with NATIONSPORT after he was forced to cancel the two-stage cycling event.
“After I put a notice about the event on our Facebook page, I got a message saying that the cyclists would boycott it, but I ignored that because the person wasn’t even a cyclist anyway. So then I put out a message asking people who were interested, but there was a real lack of positive responses,” said Headley. (JM)
