JUST UNDER A MONTH after young Yahandje Daniel earned the top honours in the teen talent 6-12 competition, she was again basking in winner’s row.
This time around, the 12-year-old was rejoicing after outperforming 14 other acts with two Adele numbers, Don’t You Remember and When We Were Young, to be crowned the 40th winner of the Richard Stoute Teen Talent Contest.
The crowning took place on Sunday night as throngs of people braved intermittent showers to make their way to the Hilton Barbados to support their favourites.
Daniel, who scored 838 points, won $6 000 in cash among her many prizes, as well as sponsorship to the Barbados Community College. The Alleyne School student also received $1 000 for the Best Essay compliments of Cave Shepherd.
Second on 813 points was Gabrielle Yearwood who performed Tina Turner’s Simply The Best and Beyonce’s Listen; while Kenya Joseph took third place with I Am Changing and Love Will Lead You Back, earning 810 points.
Former Junior Monarch Raanan Hackett was fourth (807 points) for his renditions of Kareen Clarke’s Caribbean Unity and the spouge classic You’re No Good. (SDB Media)
