IT TOOK THE ACTIONS of 59 sick and tired teachers to force the Ministry of Education’s hand to close Combermere School.

This is according to president of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU), Mary Redman, who said the ministry had to take the action after teachers stated they would not be attending the environmentally-plagued school after tomorrow.

“We had about 59 persons signing the document that went to the permanent secretary [Monday] stating that teachers and the staff generally would remove themselves from the environment under Section 104 of the Safety and Health at Work Act by Friday this week,” she explained.

On Monday, some teachers took to having classes outside of the normal classrooms because of the prevailing conditions. (AD)
