Tourism body expects growth
THE TOURISM SECTOR is on course to grow four per cent this year, according to projections from the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA).
Delivering her final report yesterday at the BHTA’s fourth annual quarterly general meeting at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, outgoing chief executive officer Sue Springer reported that airlift was up in almost all major markets, and cruise visitor numbers also continued to trend upwards with a record 14 ships scheduled to make inaugural calls this winter.
At the same time, she said the latest report indicated that the average occupancy had decreased by 1.1 per cent, a situation she said could be attributed to bookings via Airbnb.
She reported that Jet Blue added an additional service from Boston effective December 4 and a new flight from Newark between November 19 and January 7. (WILLCOMM)
