Duty-free answer

DUTY-FREE zones would reduce store closures in The City during long holidays. 

That was the view expressed by Barbados Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI) president Eddy Abed in response to the widespread closure of stores in Bridgetown during the Christmas holidays, which left cruise ship passengers with limited shopping options. 

An estimated 45 000 passengers sailed into the island on 16 cruise liners between Sunday and Wednesday. 

Since Christmas Day was on Sunday, both Monday and Tuesday were also holidays. (LT)
