Chekita needs $243 000 for surgery
THREE MONTHS AGO, 20-year-old Chekita Belgrave was like any other hard-working student preparing for college exams.
Now she is facing six months of surgery, including reconstructive facial surgery and chemotherapy, the result of an aggressive and rare form of cancer which Chekita at first thought was a painful toothache.
The Queen’s College alumna and a second-year marketing student at Humber College in Canada, has now become the face of an appeal for CAN$160 000 (Bds$243 000) to battle osteogenic sarcoma, a cancerous bone tumour.
She has launched www.gofundme.com/chekitascancerfund, and opened Royal Bank of Canada account 77071368, where people can make deposits. (AC)
