LIAT PILOTS may have been rescued, but it won’t be known for another three months if the same can be said for the cash-strapped regional airline.
Following an almost three-hour meeting at Hilton Barbados yesterday, chairman of the shareholder governments of LIAT, St Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, said that a directive had been sent to the respective banks to pay the pilots.
The payment came seven days after they were due their money.
“I believe that instructions have gone to the bank today [yesterday] for the payments and I think, depending which bank it is, some of them will get paid tomorrow [today], or some the next day,” Gonsalves told reporters shortly after exiting the meeting, which began just after 3 p.m. and concluded around 6 p.m. (RB)
