HAYLEY MATTHEWS took four wickets and Kyshona Knight struck a patient half-century to guide Barbados to a six-wicket victory over Trinidad and Tobago in their opening match of the WICB Regional Women’s Super50 Tournament in St Vincent yesterday.

Playing at the Sion Hill ground in a match reduced to 46-overs-a-side, Barbados restricted their opponents to 131 in 42 overs and reached their target for the loss of four wickets in 37.1 overs.

Off-spinner Matthews grabbed four for 24 from ten overs and triggered a collapse in which Trinidad and Tobago lost seven wickets for 50 runs.

Trinidad and Tobago looked set for a more competitive total when they reached 81 for three at the half-way stage, but once Matthew removed West Indies player Britney Cooper for 52 off 59 balls, Barbados picked up wickets at regular intervals. (HG)
