A MAN APPEARED in court today charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a 73-year-old woman who was mauled to death by dogs. He was granted $65 000 bail with one surety.

Peter Christopher Rock, 48, of Monroe Road, Haggatt Hall, St Michael was not required to plead to the charge that he unlawfully caused the death of Verona Lolita Gibson on January 28.

Rock also faces three counts each of keeping a dog without a licence and permitting a dog without a licence in a public place.

He pleaded not guilty to these six offences under the Dog Licensing and Control Act.

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Carson Henry did not object to bail but asked that certain conditions be imposed.

Rock was ordered to surrender his travel documents and report to Boarded Hall Police Station every Monday and Tuesday.

Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant, who presided over the matter in the District “A” Magistrates Court, ordered Rock not to keep any dogs until the matter is adjudicated.

The case was adjourned until July 27. Rock is represented by attorney-at-law Leslie Cargill.

Gibson was attacked by three or four dogs as she made her way along Cutting/Roberts Road headed for St Barnabas Anglican Church. (TKS)
