THE NEW TURF is finally down. And not a moment too soon.
International hockey will return to Wildey for the first time in six years, as the Barbados Hockey Festival is set to christen the sport’s brand new sand-based surface next month.
Barbados Hockey Federation president Mark St Hill confirmed the news yesterday ahead of the August 20 start to the international festival.
“Everyone is so excited as you can imagine. We keep getting calls from travel agents and overseas teams about the state of the turf and we can now tell them that we will have the turf for our festival,” St Hill told SUNSPORT. (JM)
