MARY DOWNES WAS remembered as a kind and loving mother figure to many in her community at a vigil held in her honour last night.

Downes, 61, died on July 12, at Westmoreland, St James shortly after getting out of a public service vehicle. She was returning home from the doctor’s office.

Over 30 people attended the vigil and sang songs such as I Am Under The Rock, Because He Lives and I Surrender All. Reverend Canon Coleridge Darlington from the St Thomas Parish Church led the service which started at 7 p.m.

Her funeral will be held on Friday at the St Thomas Parish Church at 3:30 p.m. (SB)
