THE NEW PRESIDENT of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) is suggesting the time has come for the Barbados Youth team to be withdrawn from the Elite Division.

Conde Riley, who was elected to the top position in a new, reduced board that shows seven departures, made the suggestion as a step towards resolving a long-running dispute between the BCA and the Barbados Association of Principals of Public Secondary Schools (BAPPSS).

It is suggested in many quarters that the genesis of the problem took root from the BCA’s decision to allow school teams to be promoted to the Elite and Division 1 competitions and rules which stipulate that players from those schools must represent the Barbados Youth teams ahead of their school teams.

While the schools have voiced their objection to the rules over the past few seasons following the promotion of Combermere and Foundation to Division 1, the matter reached a high point two months ago when both schools boycotted the final of the Everton Weekes Under-13 competition. (HG)
