JACOB BETHELL HAS had tongues wagging on the local scene for the past few years. Yesterday was his chance to show his mettle on the regional stage.

The diminutive left-hander carved out a wonderful unbeaten century that was characterised by maturity way beyond his 13 years to lead Barbados to a third successive victory in the Cricket West Indies Under-15 Tournament.

His responsible even hundred off 137 balls stretched from the first ball to the last, and guided Barbados to a handy 222 for eight off their 50 overs, before debutant fast bowler Romario Brathwaite jolted Jamaica with a six-wicket haul that sent the opponents crashing for 133 to give the locals victory by 89 runs at the Windward Club ground.

The win allowed Barbados to maintain their 100 per cent record and established them as title favourites ahead of their penultimate match against Guyana tomorrow at KMV Oval in Lakes, St Andrew. (HG)
