Gunshot victim remains positive

THERE IS SOMETHING about the voice of young Ackeem Hinkson that says everything is going to be all right. It is friendly and reassuring even in light of his close shave with death at Spring Garden Highway on Grand Kadooment Day almost a week ago.

The 18-year-old former student of St Mary’s Primary and Ellerslie Secondary and now a student of Nature Fun Ranch is one of the victims of the shooting incident that resulted in injuries to almost 20 people and one death. He was speaking to the DAILY NATION from his bed at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital yesterday.

Ackeem is expected to be home today. But during the almost seven-minute telephone interview, one felt a determination that the aspiring jockey will ride out the injuries he sustained to both of his legs and right shoulder.

The tone of the young Chapman Street, St Michael resident was positive. He was just a couple of minutes out of surgery and moments away from visiting hours to meet with “mum” Brenda Hinkson and friends. (JS)
