WHAT HAPPENS WHEN you squeeze all the spirit, energy and culture of the Caribbean region into a two-kilometre stretch of road? You get the opening parade of the 13th edition of the Caribbean Festival of Arts.

The route from Queen’s Park to Kensington Oval belonged only to CARIFESTA XIII yesterday afternoon. For just over two hours, 21 countries danced, sang and paraded to hundreds of Barbadians lining the streets for what is the cultural highlight for the Caribbean this year.

The flamboyant displays left nothing to the wandering imagination of the culturally minded. Capturing the eye were the contingents from Haiti, Guyana and Bermuda.

The Haitians, with a large replica of their coat of arms, showed that unity was strength as a combination of dance, music and costume came together to make them a crowd-pleaser. (AD)
