More road tennis history will be created at De Big Rock Arena, Spring Garden, tonight when the king and queen of Barbados’ indigenous sport drive home brand new Kia Rio motor cars. The two most decorated men in the history of road tennis, Mark “Venom” Griffith and Julian “Michael Jackson” White, with over 60 titles between them, square off in the men’s final of the Barbados Public Workers’ Cooperative Credit Union’s Monarchs Of The Court Tournament from 9:15 p.m.
Griffith, the island’s No.1 player, has quickly built up an overflowing trophy cabinet since winning his maiden Racquets Of Fire title in 2009.
The 33-year-old Griffith now hunts a third consecutive Monarchs Of The Court title and his 22nd overall after winning three Silver Hill crowns; four Clash Of Titans titles; three titles each in the Islandwide, Village Camp and Oistins tournaments and one Lance Bynoe Masters and Cream Of The Crop.
He will be seeking to win a second car after thrashing Antoine “Lil Man” Daniel in last year’s final at Wildey. (EZS)
