PR not only for damage control

I would like to commend the writer of your Editorial Good Public Relations Lacking (Saturday Sun, March 8) for an honest and forthright approach to that issue.

For too long, some political, commercial and voluntary entities have abused the principles of good public relations and communications as a short-term remedy when things go wrong.

The general public is no longer as naive as these bodies would have us believe. Organisations will continue to operate at a mediocre level until they treat public relations and communications as an integral part of their long-term policy.

The days of pulling out the “PR machine” to solve short-term problems or to protect corporate images are over.
