‘Grow what you eat’ Open Farm workshops start in St Joseph

Efforts are on to continue the momentum of the Grow What You Eat pilot project of the Rural Development Commission (RDC), started this year at Agrofest.

Come month-end, the programme will be bolstered when the RDC hosts its first Open Farm workshop at Easy Hall, St Joseph.

It will take place on Saturday, March 31, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Farmer and RDC client, Joseph Hackett, will facilitate the session, which will place emphasis on how to grow bananas and plantains.

A key aim of the Open Farm workshop is to teach patrons how to grow their own food and reduce their food bill. This is in keeping with the aim of the Grow What You Eat programme, which forms part of the Barbados Sustainable Recovery Plan.

Members of the public are invited to attend the event which will also provide them with information about the agricultural loans programme and other activities of the RDC.

The RDC has advised those taking public transportation that they may take the Route 7 Martin’s Bay bus, which turns around right outside Hackett’s banana orchard. Those who are driving are also encouraged to use this route.

Participants are advised to wear enclosed shoes and clothing which they do not mind getting soiled. (BGIS)
