Kyle Gale breaks Bolt record to win Barbados’ first CARIFTA 2018 gold

Usain Bolt’s 16-year CARIFTA record in the boys’ Under-17 400 metre was smashed tonight as Kyle Gayle won Barbados’ first gold medal of CARIFTA 2018 in spectacular fashion a short while ago.

The St Michael School student lit up the Thomas A. Robinson stadium in the Bahamas, running a time of 47.07 seconds to beat Trinidad & Tobago’s Avindale Smith and the Bahamas’ Raymond Oriaki into second and third place respectively.

The previous record, set in 2002 in the Bahamas was 47.33 seconds.
